Ceanothus…..aka California Lilac

Great Color, Low Maintenance, Low Water

From : Most native to Califonia

Sunset Zones 5-9, 14-24, USDA Zones 6-11 (check specific variety)

Looks :  range from low groundcover to large shrubs, most evergreen (there are a few deciduous) and bloom through the spring, color can be white, lavender, light or dark blue

Personality :  easy going, wild, unruly nature, not a formal garden contender

Likes :  full sun to partial shade, good drainage, responds well to organic humus, little to no irrigation, prune after blooms fade

Issues : not a big fan of drip irrigation, aphids or whiteflies (these can be controlled)

Featured Variety :   Ceanothus ‘Dark Star’

Grows to 5-6 feet tall, 8-10 feet wide
